Wilpattu National Park

The Wilpattu National Park is situated either 30 km west of Anuradhapura or 25 km north of Puttalam.
The Sri Lankan park on the northwest coast straddles the border between the Northwestern and North Central provinces. River Modergam Aru and River Kalay oya are located to the south and north, respectively, of Wilpattu National Park. Wilpattu National Park is reached Colombo-Puttalam the city of Puttalam is reached by the A3 highway. There is a sizable sign board that indicates Wilpattu National Park 42 kilometers along the A12 Puttalam–Anuradhapura route. The park entry at Hunuwilagama is located 7 km down the road after the signboard's left turn.




In the year 1905, Wilpattu was designated as a wildlife refuge. The refuge was given the title of National Wildlife Park on February 25, 1938. On November 7th, 1947, Wilpattu northern region was designated as the Wilpattu North Sanctuary.
