The 3,776-acre Ritigala Mountain, which lies in Sri Lanka's Anuradhapura District North Central Province between Habarana and Maradankadawala, is one of the country's Strict Natural Reserves (SNRs).

From an archaeological, historical, cultural, botanical, and zoological (natural environment) perspective, Ritigala is significant. Due to the extremely unusual and high biodiversity of the aforementioned area, Ritigala Mountain is one of the 501 Protected Areas (PA) directly under the Department of Forestry and Department of Wildlife Conservations of Sri Lanka.

Simply said, Ritigala is a nature reserve with many important assets and unique biological and archaeological features. It is also a highly well-liked location for its extraordinary weather patterns. It was designated a Strict Natural Reserve in 1941 because it contains a unique ecology with uncommon plant and animal species.
