Unawatuna is a quaint village on the outskirts of Galle, a city in Sri Lanka's Southern Province. It has gained popularity as one of the top diving destinations in the country. The Mawella Lagoon Airport is situated just 70 km away from Unawatuna.

The diving sites in Unawatuna are known for their rocky formations covered in black coral, shipwrecks, and various tropical fish species. The dive sites closer to the beach are ideal for beginners or those taking scuba diving lessons. Slightly deeper dives include many wrecks and underwater rock formations teeming with larger fish and aquatic animals such as turtles. One of the most popular dive sites in Unawatuna is the wreck of the "Rangoon," a British steamer that sank 100 years ago.

Apart from the Rangoon, Unawatuna has several other great sites for diving, such as the Galle Shipwreck, Diyamba Kupatha, and Goda Gala Diyamba-Napolian reef. These sites offer unique underwater experiences, diverse marine life, and fascinating rock formations. If you're a diving enthusiast or someone looking to try something new, Unawatuna is an excellent destination for a memorable diving experience.
